A Diplexer is not only a combiner as it can be used to combine or split RF and SAT-IF frequencies.

The Space SMDC1 –SAT/TV Combiner is a small lightweight but very efficient TV and Satellite combiner / splitter. This handy little device allows you to combine both TV signals and Satellite Signals into one cable. The Space SMDC1 –SAT/TV Combiner simplifies the Dstv Explora or HD5 Decoder Heart Beat communication when installing two Explora Decoders in separate viewing environments.

This kind of systematic ExtraView connection on DStv is very relevant especially for decoders without an RF-IN or RF-OUT ports. Some recently introduced smart DStv decodeers like the 5-Series HD decoders fall within this catregory. If your decoder does not have any RF-IN or RF-OUT ports behind it, and you are thinking of using it in more complex installations like the ExtraView or extended TV points, then the DStv Diplexer, Combiner is the perfect device for you.

DStv ExtraView Connection Procedure Using the Diplexer - for 5 - Series HD, Explora Decoders

The most significant feature of the DStv ExtraView setup is the "HeartBeat Communication" between the primary, secondary and some other decoders that may be involved in the connection. In the diagram above, you will notice that the two decoders involved are connected through the LNB, located up at the satellite dish.

Signal transmission runs from the Smart LNB, to the DStv Diplexers and then to the decoders. The Diplexers carry two signal formats - the DStv satellite signals and the "HeartBeat Communication" signals. Behind the Explora which has got the LNB IN port and the RF IN and OUT ports, the twin cords or wire you see in the diagram are connected accordingly.

However the other Zappa 5 - Series HD decoder has got no RF ports, but its LNB and / or its ANTENNA - IN ports are utilized for this ExtraView connection.

At the Smart LNB position, the first two ports on the LNB are utilized despite the presence of other LNB - feeder ports which can also be used to feed other decoders working independently.

Once your connection is set up this way, the two decoders or more involved in the DStv ExtraView would begin to communicate and as such your Extra View would be up and running.
